Federal Budget 2024 - 2025: Budget outcomes for Aged Care

The Treasurer delivered the Federal Budget on 14 May 2024. Here we highlight some of the announcements that will make an impact on the aged care sector.

Increases to Award Rates for Aged Care Workers

Committing to the Work Value Case Stage 3 – The government made an overall commitment to fund the outcomes of the Work Value Case, Stage 3, for both direct and indirect care workers, although no specific figure was provided.

The Full Bench of the Fair Work Commission has released decisions on the Aged Care Work Value Case, determining an increase to the Aged Care Award 2010, Nurses Award 2020 and Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010.

The Fair Work Commission expects to make the final determination in June. More information on the Case decisions, is available here: More information

Funding for New Aged Care Regulatory Framework

The Budget announcement included $110.9 million over four years from 2024–25 to increase the regulatory capability of the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission. This allocation is part of the Government’s response to the Final Report of the Capability Review.

This funding will also support the implementation of the new aged care regulatory framework starting on 1 July 2025. For clients, this means improved oversight and higher standards of care across aged care services.

Increase in Home Care Packages

The government announced $531.4 million to fund an additional 24,100 packages in 2024-25. While the packages fall short of the numbers required to clear the national queue and meet projected demand, the release of these packages will help more people live at home for longer.

Are You on the Home Care Package Waitlist?

It has been reported that the majority of Home Care Package applicants are waiting between 6 and 9 months before their package is approved by My Aged Care. Many of our clients choose to fund their care privately whilst they are on the waitlist, and once their package is approved, Prestige Inhome Care transfer the funding over to their HCP.

If you are waiting for a Home Care Package or are exploring aged care or disability support options for you or your loved one, reach out to our Care Specialist team for more information on 1300 10 30 10.  Alternatively, request a call back below.
